In times of perceived high stress situations and environments, have you thought how you actually show up?
On the whole, are you calm and able to focus? Do you work through things logically and move on effortlessly? If you do, that’s brilliant!
Or do you suddenly feel overwhelmed, not able to function as you normally do, can’t sleep, become unavailable for others and even when the event has passed, keep re-running it your mind taking up to one month to fully recover? Do you find this is becoming a recurring problem?
It is always good to have situations that will push you out of your comfort zone, it can be a little uncomfortable; it’s how we learn and develop but when it becomes totally overwhelming and you can’t see the wood for the trees or think straight, it is becoming a problem. It is also being noticed by others because your performance is changing and suffering.
What Can You Do About It?
It is well known that there are various techniques that can support you through these times and they may help for a short while. Breathing techniques, going out for a walk in fresh air, self-affirmations, whatever methods you use, as soon as you are back in the thick of it, the old feelings start to appear again, right?
I keep seeing something time and time again when clients come to me and the reality is you you can’t breathe your way out of a burning building. Once you see it too, it changes everything.
Most people are trying to breathe better inside a burning house. They’ve learned to stay calm, to meditate through the madness. Inhaling through your nose and out through your mouth while the flames of overwhelm, anxiety, shame and sadness rage around them.
And yes, breathing can do wonders, but at some point, you have to walk out of the house. You have to stop managing your emotions and start understanding them. You have to stop coping with pain and clear the root of it. You have to stop rearranging the furniture around the constraints of old identity and realise the door may be locked and you have the key to open it.
And what do the people around you see. You can only show outwardly a reflection of what is going on inside, your feelings and thoughts are unconsciously transmitted, you are not aware of it. You can say to yourself; take a deep breath and smile, you have got this and are amazing, yet your behaviour and energy will not reflect this as there is something deeper going on and this is what people truly see.
The Next Step
So, if you are tired of fighting fires and something inside you knows that too then maybe you are ready for what comes next. A deep dive into your unconscious programme that drives you 95% of the time, understand the root cause clearing it along the way unveiling confidence that will drive you through any ‘high stress’ situations and environments effortlessly with clarity and decisive decision making.
